Pesach Guidelines

As we sit at home during these unprecedented times the challenges abound. Food and weight may seem silly and frivolous with so many greater issues to deal with. However, don’t under estimate the ripple effect behavioral changes in your food habits create. When you create structure and discipline in one area you're much more likely to be successful in all your daily behavioral challenges. Where as if you are sitting around snacking all day you are probably noticing your mood and actions are not up to the standard you really want. That being said your program is now inflexible. No excuses, rationalizations or reasons (too many exist to even start, so don’t even go there!!) Hatzlacha, stay healthy and Besuros Tovos.

I like to think of pesach as an opportunity to sort of detox with a clean eating mentality. Focus on raw, whole food ingredients. Now is a good time to cut back on sugar since most processed foods are anyways out of the menu options. And YES you can even lose weight on Pesach!!

First of all, you must approach Pesach with a determined attitude and frame of mind.

Set a very specific goal for yourself and write it down or tell a friend.

  • weigh your matzah kezasim before the Seder and label each portion so you have exactly the amount you need.

  • use a dry wine or light grape juice

  • NO POTATOES – you need to use your bread servings for matza

  • Before the Seder = Eat a piece of chicken with vegetables at 5-6pm and then only have soup at Shulchan Aruch.

  • Eat a protein for breakfast every morning. Some choices are: omelet, Greek yogurt, Greek cheese snack, avocado

  • You can have 6oz of protein at every seudah. (it can be divided between fish and chicken/meat)

  • Chol hamoed lunch can be a 1/3 matza sandwich with cheese or tuna/salmon , chicken and salad or omelet

  • NO CHOCOLATE ALLOWED

  • 2 fruits per day (if you are not watching your sugar) throughout pesach not chol hamoed.

  • It is important to move around a lot on pesach since the matza and wine combination tends to sit in the stomach. Drinks lots and lots of water.

  • 1/4 MATZAH (OR 1 OZ.) = 1 BREAD SERVING

CHAG KASHER VESAMEACH!!

Wishing you all warmest regards and best of health! May we all greet Mashiach soon!
